Basic Origami is the Base for All Models. This Includes the Basic Forms. Do You Know What They Are?
Basic Form 1
Basic Form 2
Basic Form 6
Basic Form 7
Basic Form 8
1) Start with a square sheet of paper. For basic origami like this, almost any type of paper will work, but if you are using this as a base for a more complicated model, you should choose your paper accordingly. The paper I am using for this example is 7″x7″, but again, almost any size will work.

2) The basic origami forms turn out best with the colored side facing outwards, so, to get as much of the red side showing as possible in the finished product, we will turn the sheet over. If you want to have your model be mostly white, with just a little bit of red showing, just keep the white side facing down.

3) Fold the sheet in half diagonally from corner to corner so that you get a triangle.

4) To accomplish this, you first fold the two corners together, then, keeping them together, flatten the far edge as shown.

5) The result is a nice sharp triangle

6) Now, open the triangle back up again. You should see that you have a nice sharp crease running down the exact center of your paper. That will be your guideline for the next step. Position the paper so that the crease is running up/down not side to side.

7) You will now bring the right most corner in to the center, making sure that edge of the sheet of paper lines up perfectly with the center crease as shown. But DON’T flatten it yet!

8) Double check that the edge is right on top of the center crease, and then, with one hand holding the free edge in place, flatten the fold with your other hand.

9) Now, repeat step 8 with the other corner. If what you end up with looks like this, then you’ve finished. Congratulations on creating a successful model!

1) Start with a square sheet of paper. The side that you wish to be exposed on the finished model should be face down.

2) Fold the paper in half vertically by folding the right side over to the left. Then unfold it.

3) Fold both the left and right sides in so that they meet at the middle crease that you just created.

4) Now, fold the model in half horizontally by folding the lower edge up to the upper edge. And unfold it.

5) Next, fold both the upper and lower edges up to meet at the center horizontal crease that you made in step 4. Unfold it.

6) Fold the bottom of the model…

…First to the right along line 1, unfold it…

…And then fold it over to the left along line 2, and unfold it again.

7) Now you have a nice X crease in your paper!

8) To continue, open up the bottom of the model. Note that for easy reference, the corners of the paper are marked in red. Now, take note of the black line that is imposed on this model…

9) …Fold the base of the model up along that line, and flatten the corners into a point as shown.

10) To conclude, rotate the model 180 degrees and repeat steps 8-9 with the other half of the model!

1) Like all basic origami, start with a square sheet of paper.

2) Fold it in half so that it looks like the triangle shown here.

3) Now fold the right corner over to the left corner so that you have an even smaller triangle.

4) Next, pull the corner that you just folded over straight up and open it up. Note the corner is marked in red.

5) Then, flatten the whole flap so that the corner (still marked in red) is on top of the two bottom corners. Make sure your creases are nice and sharp here.

6) Here’s what it should look like from the bottom, where you just folded down the corner.

7) Now turn the whole thing over. Fold the corner that is sticking out to the right, over along the middle of the model so that…

8) …It is now sticking out to the left, just like the first corner used to be…

9) …And repeat steps 4-5 with the corner that you just folded over. What you should get is a neat little square.

Here’s what it will look like from the the bottom where all four corner are now folded together.

…Make sure that the open corner is pointing down.

2) Now fold the left flap in towards the middle…

3) …And flatten the left edge so that the right edge is lined up with the center crease.

4) Repeat steps 2-3 with the right flap.

5) You now need to fold the top corner down along the the tops of the two flaps that you just folded over.

6) And then unfold everything so that you are back to step one. What you have done so far is called ‘Creasing.’ It just makes the folds that you will do later on easier.

7) Take the bottom corner (make sure that you get just the top layer) and fold it up along the top crease line that you made in step 5…

8) …As you pull the bottom corner up, fold both the left and right corners in towards the middle so that their edges meet right along the vertical center line.

9) After you flatten everything, what you get should look like this.

10) You’re almost finished, just turn the model over…

11) …And repeat steps 2-8 on the other side! Remember to make nice sharp creases. What you should end up with is this. Yep, this is really basic origami.
Basic Form 8

1) Start with Basic Form 1. Position as shown.

2) Fold the lower right edge up, so that it lines up with the center line. Make a nice sharp crease.

3) Next, unfold what you just did.

4) Then, opening up the whole bottom-right side of the model…

5) …Fold the newly opened corner in half…

7) Now, just fold the tip upwards, and flatten it so that its open side is parallel with the center crease.

8) Repeat steps 2-7 on the upper half of the model, and you’re done!
